What is PlanetMark?

The PlanetMark is a sustainability certification which recognises continuous improvements, encourages action, and builds an empowered community of like-minded individuals.

A key part of our work is to demonstrate that sustainability is good for business and that business is a force for good for the environment and society. We know that by uniting the very best of people technology and nature, we can radically reduce carbon emissions, transform communities, and ultimately halt climate change.

Together, together, we are a collective force of good.

Our story

In 2012, Steve Malkin, CEO and founder of PlanetMark, was introduced to Sir Tim Smit KBE, co-founder of The Eden Project. They realised that they shared a common belief that a connection with nature can enable all people to contribute to a thriving planet.

Together, they created a truly effective, people-driven sustainability programme for any organisation of any size, in any sector, anywhere in the world. The relationship with The Eden Project remains etched into our culture.

Over the last seven years, the world has changed as have we. In 2017 we strengthened our board by bringing in Sarah Gillett, Chief Operating Officer, Lilly Miller, Chief Financial Officer and Non-Executive Director, Stephen Kirk, Business Leader at SKCI. We started extensive business and digital transformation programmes that have helped accelerate the business to its next stage of growth.

We have continuously been improving and adapting the certification to meet our member’s needs. To help companies show their place in our global community, we began to measure contributions to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In 2018 we added social value measurement, making the programme well rounded and holistic. We have also brought in expertise in engagement, communications, strategy setting, reporting, compliance, offsetting and lifecycle assessments.

Our membership has grown exponentially too. We have certified over 800 organisations in every sector who are making progress for the planet. We work closely with our members to learn and grow.

With a team of 20 and growing, we are a passionate bunch who want to help organisations create a thriving planet. As we look forward to the next 10 years, we are proud to commit to the Decade of Action to end climate crisis and create social value for all. Together, we are a collective force for good.
